Contributions to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly
Research and information design to map CIVICUS’s contribution to the ecosystem behind UN General Comment 37
CIVICUS is a global alliance of civil society organisations advocating for civic space and citizen action worldwide.
Civil society work is rarely tidy. Influence moves through networks, coalitions and long campaigns, and the organisations doing the work don’t always get to see how their efforts connect to the outcomes that matter. CIVICUS came to us at a strategic crossroads, needing to understand their contribution to the ecosystem behind UN General Comment 37 on the Right to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly before they could determine where to focus next. We conducted two phases of research – mapping their involvement through desk research, then deepening the investigation through interviews with Special Rapporteurs and senior INGO figures. Following the outcome harvesting, findings were then translated into a suite of infographics that gave CIVICUS the clarity to plan strategically and the evidence to communicate to funders.
