Design thinking for youth mental health

A 4-month design thinking process with Little Lions to surface strengths and centre local role models as the core of their strategy

Little Lions is a mental health NGO improving the psychosocial wellbeing of vulnerable children across Africa through free workshops hosted by trained local role models in under-resourced communities.

They came to us looking to develop a tech product to expand their reach. Through a four-month design thinking process surfacing insights, testing assumptions and engaging the team in collective inquiry, we helped them discover that their greatest asset was already embedded in their model: the local role models themselves. This reframe shifted their strategic focus, moving away from a technology-led expansion toward a community-rooted one. We went on to support organisational development strategies and campaign content that centred this insight.

We created a video for Little Lions capturing their community coaching model for funders and the public. Watch it here.
