“Visually, Wonder brings together the many elements of the beauty of Africa. From the hills and the valleys to the rivers and the mountains, the video tells the story of the diversity and beauty of Africa and her people. Put together by OCTOPI, the Wonder visuals and video highlight the many talents of young creatives, designers, film makers and artists from around South Africa and is a true testament to the community spirit and camaraderie that is so present in our country. ” – Milan Rendall

THE SONG

Wonder: Hope is something that we all yearn to feel. It is a kind of love. It’s a feeling we’ve all felt. Sometimes it glimmers and sometimes it surrounds us, lifts and moves us to something greater than ourselves. This feeling is a feeling so rooted in our experience of being African. This is Wonder.

THE VIDEO

Pulling from the song’s focus on Africa and hope, the music video showcases beauty in the diversity of African people, set in a landscape that mirrors the same in nature.

THE STYLING

Sourcing from local clothing designers, vintage stores and the styling closet of our wonderful stylists Erin Simon & Olive Hodge, the talent are dressed to compliment each other, the nature, and highlight the strength of the emerging fashion industry in South Africa.

FROM THE STYLISTS

“Our creative process began with understanding Thando and using him as the hero of the film (being the artist), and then styling the talent around his outfit. We wanted Thando to feel amazing when we put the outfit on, like he was on top of the world. We found this tapestry jacket at Better Half (a vintage store in Observatory), and then used it as the hero piece to style everything else around. The jacket acted as the canvas where by we styled the talent/extras to purposely enhance the colour and textures of the jacket. Then everything else sort of fell into place. We aimed to support small businesses and second-hand sustainable brands, like Tiiny Closet and Vintage Conversations along with an up and coming fashion designer Oddity.” – Olive&Erin
