Developing community-led economic systems
Developing a program methodology grounded in grassroots resilience and community-led economic practices through multi-stakeholder engagement and strategic planning
Grassroots Economics has spent over a decade piloting and refining economic practices rooted in community ownership and Indigenous resource coordination across Kenya. Through focus groups and field research we helped translate this experience into a methodology that could enable communities, activists and aid organisations to adopt and build their own economic commons.
We worked with them on a scaling plan, navigating the organisational, legal and technical changes needed to take the work further. To make a case for community currencies as a development aid tool, we compiled a report for Agence Française de Développement exploring where and how these systems can be adopted more broadly by institutions and governments.
